The making of a marine hydraulics cylinder

22-01-19

With almost 50 years’ experience in designing and manufacturing hydraulic components and systems, our work has spanned many different types of sectors, making our working lives varied and interesting - and never dull! We often create marine hydraulics cylinders which is something we enjoy doing; we relish the varied challenges this sector brings. Our experience and engineering skills means we are able to produce cylinders for a wide range of marine applications, including for submerged equipment, waterborne vehicles and infrastructure. These include, but are not limited to:

•Steering systems for boats and hovercrafts

•Opening mechanisms for boat garages on super yachts

•Rigging systems for sail boats

•Walkways and bridges

•Davit systems

•Offshore power generation

Over the years we have become a trusted supplier to many types of customers in the marine, offshore and subsea sectors industry and we are always open to working with new customers on standard or bespoke innovative marine projects.

Making a marine hydraulics cylinder

There are a number of complexities involved in manufacturing for marine environments – salt and humidity to name just a few. However, there are a number of steps we take to overcome these when it comes to manufacturing marine hydraulics cylinders. For example, we use:

•High-quality materials for marine environments: We source high-quality marine grade stainless steels and other high-specification materials that are suitable for the tough conditions experienced in the marine sector. All our materials have full traceability and an audit trail so you can see their provenance and reliability.

•Customised and durable components: Components in marine applications can be difficult to access, making short maintenance schedules difficult to keep up with. We design and manufacture custom marine components with durability in mind, allowing for extended service intervals that are more suited to marine environments.

•Leading product design software: Expert designers at our state of the art manufacturing base use the latest SOLIDWORKS CAD software and full ERP production control software in a temperature controlled room, incorporating a CNC coordinate measuring machine.

•A highly skilled team: All our marine hydraulics cylinders are welded by experienced certified welders in accordance with BS EN 287.

•Failsafe testing: Full pressure testing is carried out on each cylinder to 250bar as standard, or as specified by you.

We manufacture marine hydraulics cylinders with bore sizes ranging from 25mm to 300mm and a stroke up to 3000mm for single stage and multistage applications. Our cylinders are coated with anti-corrosive primer and we also offer a range of finishing options and colours including single and two pack paint systems, various electroplating techniques and hot metal spray (for very corrosive environments). A full range of mounting styles and valve options are also available. Our offshore products are fitted with advanced technologies to provide an extended lifetime in harsh marine environments.

Every marine project is different with varying requirements, locations, challenges and circumstances. Talk to our team of marine hydraulics cylinder experts to find out how we can help you achieve your goals with bespoke or standardised marine equipment.
